Artist Statement
Life grows everywhere it can, and many places it can’t. As countless varieties of life as exists here, and everywhere else, not all of them are easily recognisable or classifiable. That that remains unknown, know that they live, for they have encountered themselves before. Whatever the spark that first started their existence, explored all myriad permutations, variations and evolutions available. Only a miniscule amount of these possibilities are exhibited here.

Gotta start somewhere, might as well start with objects I'm familiar with - bowls.

They got big, these bowls did.

Bowls inevitably lead to balls. Hmmm, pity the front one didn't survive drying....

Distraction time. This is my cat, called for social media purposes 'The Supervisor'. Mostly she supervises meal times, and my lack of attention on her when I'm making.

More bowls and balls in the kiln.

Mum wanted to know if any of my shapes were containers, so I made these.

The first Tendril pot. Kinda inspired by a little bit of the opening titles to 'The X-Files'.

More distraction. The Supervisor's favourite TV personality - David Attenborough. Also, birds, like this magpie.

The start of 'Growth'. Getting a bit weird, drying a bit slowly.

'Growth' in the kiln, plus a few small, container pots with their own growths.

Disaster! I didn't chock it and so it succumbed to gravity. No picture of it survives either.

The start of 'Sprout'. Biggest pot so far. Simplest idea.

'Sprout', finished and drying on a potters wheel to show some of it's size.

'Sprout' in the kiln. Clever me made the top tendril removable, so it doesn't break of during transport etc. And so it fits in the kiln.
